Our Autumn Bucket List

Our Autumn Bucket List

We don’t like to play favourites, but autumn might just be our favourite season of them all. From the leaves turning golden beneath October’s gaze and the promise of the festive season to come, to the sense of new beginnings and the lure of cosy evenings indoors – there’s a certain magic in the air when fall rolls around in Cambridge.

Here are some of our top tips for celebrating the season in Cambridge :

1. Gather your favourite people and go punting on the River Cam before the weather gets too chilly. We love cruising past the colleges, resplendent in all the colours of autumn (preferably beneath the comfort of a tartan blanket).

2. Take a long walk or bike ride to the countryside, and be rewarded with fall foliage and a cup of tea at the other end. We’ll be cycling to Grantchester for afternoon tea beneath the trees at The Orchard.

3. Speaking of which, take your bicycles for their bi-annual maintenance check-up. In Cambridge, we favour Tony (and his dog, Pedlar) at The Bike Station by the train station, or S&G Cycles on Laundress Lane for the best service with a smile

4. Hunt for the best hot chocolate in town (or master your own). We love heading to Chocolat Chocolat or Fitzbillies for a steaming mug of chocolate on a chilly Sunday.

5. Head to the farmers’ market to pick up some fresh seasonal produce. We’ll be buying bags full of figs, chestnuts, and pumpkins (to turn into pie) in the Market Square in Cambridge.

6. Treat yourself to a new cashmere scarf and a bag in a cheery colour. Perfect for brightening up cold morning journeys across town.

7. Longer evenings call for cosy nights at home with a stack of books and a pot of tea. Visit your favourite local bookstore for a few new-season reads.

8. Autumn’s back-to-school feeling always lends an air of clean slates and new beginnings, so it’s the perfect time to set some goals and ambitions for the rest of 2017. The key to a successful resolution: make them realistic and measurable.
